چکیده

The problem of arriving at a natural classification of the copepods has been in no small measure complicated by the repeated appearance within the group of the parasitic and commensal habit. In the cyclopoids, two sections, the Poecilostoma and the Siphonostoma, have been established and remain well differentiated on the basis of the specialization of mouth appendages correlated with parasitic and semiparasitic existence. Unfortunately for the systematist, these copepods seem to exhibit the widest tolerance in the selection of hosts. From the records, any phylum above the Protozoa which is represented to any conspicuous degixe in the marine fauna is likely to appear in the roster of hosts of cyclopoid symbionts. This diversity of occurrence, in addition to small size, inconspicuous appearance, and remarkable agility in eluding usual methods of capture, has resulted in a scattered and fragmentary representation of this group in museum collections and consequently in the literature on copepods. The most extensive reports to date either have been surveys of the faunas of fairly limited

Modeling and Simulation of Claus Unit Reaction Furnace

Reaction furnace is the most important part of the Claus sulfur recovery unit and its performance has a significant impact on the process efficiency. Too many reactions happen in the furnace and their kinetics and mechanisms are not completely understood; therefore, modeling reaction furnace is difficult and several works have been carried out on in this regard so far. Equilibrium models are co...

Spatial and Temporal Variation in Copepod Community in the Helleh River Estuary – South Coast of Iran, Persian Gulf

Copepods are the main zooplankton assemblages in most tropical and semi-tropical estuaries. In this research, copepod population dynamics were investigated in Helleh River estuary, Persian Gulf during four seasons beginning from summer 2011 to spring 2012.  Samples were taken using plankton net with mesh size of 140 µm and vertical towing from 5 fixed-stations in mid-season. Results showed that...

Study on population growth and production of cyclopoid copepod Acanthocyclops trajani fed on different diets

In this study the effects of different algal and nonalgal diets on density and population growth rate of cyclopoid copepod Acanthocyclops trajani were studied. To this intention, the copepod were mass cultured in 120 liter tanks by feeding on different diets (5 treatments, 3 replicate in each one) including fresh composition of microalgae: Scenedesmus obliquus and Spirulina maxima (LSS), dried ...

Mitochondrial and nuclear rRNA based copepod phylogeny with emphasis on the Euchaetidae (Calanoida)

Phylogenetic relationships within the copepod family Euchaetidae and between representatives of three copepod orders (Calanoida, Harpacticoida, and Poecilostomatoida) were investigated using partial nucleotide sequences of the mitochondrial 16S rRNA and the nuclear 28S rRNA genes. DNA isolation, polymerase chain reaction, cloning, and DNA sequencing techniques were customized for these crustace...

Experimental transmission of a microsporidian pathogen from mosquitoes to an alternate copepod host.

Meiospores of a microsporidian parasite Amblyospora sp. (Protozoa: Microspora) from larval Aedes cantator mosquitoes were directly infectious to an alternate copepod host, Acanthocyclops vernalis (Arthropoda: Crustacea). Infections ranged from 6.7% to 60.0% in laboratory tests when meiospores and copepods were maintained together for 10-30 days in filtered water from the breeding site or in a b...
